About

In recent decades instruction in the field of plant anatomy has been reduced due to several reasons, the main ones being, high costs of maintaining the physical infrastructure (microscopes, and preparation equipment and materials), and the need to train and employ teaching assistants. However, since the lack of extensive laboratory activity as part of students’ academic training is objected by botany teachers, alternative teaching modes using modern digitizing techniques were developed. Digital images collections and anatomy databases are gaining popularity as teaching aids, virtual museums and libraries of structural information. Here we present an online Interactive Plant Anatomy image database intended to serve as an on-line teaching tool, student supplementary resource, enrichment material, and preparation tool for laboratory sessions.

This Interactive Plant Anatomy database was developed by:

Amram Eshel, School of Plant Sciences and Food Security, Tel-Aviv University, and

Ilana Shtein, Ariel University.
